Welcome aboard the Knowledge Train. In this podcast, we explore insights and tips to help you manage your way to success in your career and business. I’m Simon Buehring, your conductor on this journey to knowledge, and I’m thrilled to have you with us today.

In this episode, we assess the need for Microsoft Office training within project teams. We’ll explore what Microsoft Office offers and whether training could be the key to boosting your team’s productivity and project outcomes.

First, let’s discuss what Microsoft Office is. It’s the best-known business productivity suite available as a software service through Office 365 or as standalone desktop applications. For project teams, there are three suites to consider: Microsoft Office 365 Business Basic, Business Standard, and Business Premium. These suites include web versions of essential tools like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The Standard and Premium versions also offer desktop versions of Outlook, Access, and Publisher. Importantly, all three suites come with Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Exchange, making them perfect for collaborative project work.

The collaboration capabilities of Microsoft Office are crucial for project teams. Good communication is key to project success, and Microsoft Office provides robust tools to facilitate it. SharePoint allows project managers to centralise files and folders, offering configuration management capabilities for version control. OneDrive provides automatic syncing of shared project files, and Microsoft Teams supports remote collaboration through video conferencing and file sharing.

But does your team need Microsoft Office training? It largely depends on their existing experience. Many people are familiar with basic Office tools like Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. However, tools like SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive might be less familiar. Microsoft offers a wealth of free training resources for its core products. For larger teams, in-house training might be a cost-effective solution. For smaller needs, Microsoft’s free resources can be a great start.
